I’m at the Mastermind in Paradise, i’ve been talking about it for a few days now.  All my mentors are there.  All the people I look up to in this space…  And I have an opportunity to Pitch one of my mentors…  AND I BLOW IT!  Thank God for the gap and the gain!

Pedro Adeo - the challenge guy - He’s worked with Joel Osteen, Tony Robins, Russel Brunson and helped them with their challenges.  The list goes on and on!

So here’s a little back story. For anybody who doesn’t know me - I capture your customer stories and video testimonials that move the needle in your business.  So that you can have more leads, sales, and renewals. All without you having to lift a finger :).

So I’m always looking for creative ways to get them, use them, make it fun and exciting for your customers etc.

And so I watch guys like Pedro and I’m thinking how can I get awesome testimonials for him, from his challenges, his workshops, whatever.  And I’ve got all these great ideas for him.

Now keep in mind I haven’t actually been to any of his challenges or workshops or anything to see if he needs that.  I could go do the research and find out.

Anyhow - Russell before and after one of his presentations says, “Hey Pedro is looking for some people to give him some testimonials about his challenges…  Sign up at the back table.”  And Pedro is standing back there by the tables and I’m in the back row by the tables and him.  I’m watching intently…  And there’s a gap there where he is standing by himself.  And I think nows my chance.    

So I go up to him and I say I’ve got some ideas for you…   And he says “OK”.  And I just start stammering and stuttering and what I am saying is making no sense!  And he’s looking at me with blanks, what are you talking about.  And it becomes clear he’s got things to do.  So I’m like, go ahead, you’ve got stuff to do we’ll talk another time…

And I am crushed - humiliated!  And I just want to go back to my room and hide under the covers…  But I do

But here’s the funnest part!

The gap and the gain learnings I have noted so far!  (And I’m all in on the gap and the gain btw!)

  1. I’m one step closer to getting it right next time!
  2. I’ve got a great story to tell :).
  3. Perhaps it will inspire others to take messy action.
  4. I could have simply asked him in the moment “what is your hardest trouble w/getting your customer testimonials on video?”  Or somebody the like.
  5. I have a better sense on how to lead w value
  6. I rebounded strongly, kept smiling and saying hi 🙂. And didn’t let it crater the rest of the event.  Which is kind of like saying - I didn’t go in my room and hide.  But oh boy did I want to.
  7. And there’s more… but you get the point.
